spiral &#8212; though that&#8217;s real too &#8212; but the quieter, stranger grief of looking at your own life and feeling like you&#8217;ve missed some internal deadline. like the version of you who was supposed to be here by now hasn&#8217;t arrived. like you&#8217;re running late to a life you planned for yourself and can&#8217;t quite find.</p><p>i&#8217;ve been collecting books for this feeling for a long time. not self-help books that tell you to stop comparing &#8212; that advice, while technically correct, does approximately nothing for the feeling. but books that actually sit inside it with you. books that give you language for the specific disorientation of being twenty-something and mid-question and feeling, quietly and persistently, like you&#8217;re behind in your own story.</p><p>here are five that helped me most.</p>
